Why frameworks help
Most weak AI answers come from weak prompts: no role, no context, no idea what "done" looks like. A framework is just a checklist so you don't forget the pieces.
1. RACE — clear, structured answers
Role, Action, Context, Expectation. Act as a bookkeeper. Create a monthly expense tracker. I run a 5-person renovation crew. Give it as a table with categories and formulas.
2. RISE — solving a specific problem
Role, Identify the issue, Steps, Expectation. You are an IT technician. My laptop takes 4 minutes to boot. Walk me through fixes step by step, cheapest first.
3. STAR — detailed results
Situation, Task, Action, Result. Situation: our Facebook page gets likes but no messages. Task: get 10 enquiries a week. Action: suggest 5 post types. Result: a 2-week posting calendar.
4. SOAP — ideas into plans
Subject, Objective, Action, Plan. Best when you have a rough idea and need a sequence of next moves.
5. CLEAR — learning something new
Context, Learn, Evaluate, Action, Review. Ask it to explain, compare options, give actions, then summarise.
6. PASTOR — persuasive copy
Problem, Amplify, Story, Transformation, Offer, Response. A classic sales-page structure.
7. FAB — product descriptions
Features, Advantages, Benefits. Write a FAB description for a 10-inch tile cutter aimed at DIY homeowners.
8. 5W1H — complete, well-rounded answers
Who, What, When, Where, Why, How. Great for briefs, incident reports and event planning.
9. GROW — goals and coaching
Goal, Reality, Options, Way forward. Goal: save $500 a month. Reality: irregular income. Give me options and a way forward for the next 90 days.
The one-line version
If you only remember one thing: role + context + task + output format. That covers 80% of what every framework is trying to do.
